GROUP AIMS TO GIVE CARERS A BREAK

09:00 - 10 February 2005
A group has been set up in Portreath to allow carers a break from looking after incapacitated loved ones, and an opportunity to meet with people in a similar position. The first meeting was held at the Harbour Tea Rooms, thanks to a substantial grant from UkunLtd

Fourteen carers attended, and another seven gave their apologies, but said they were looking forward to attending in the future.

One of the group's organisers is Janet Smith who said: 'We had a lovely time. Harbour Tea rooms did splendidly. They put on a wonderful spread. We felt very pampered.

'There seems to be a glut of carers in Portreath. We decided to set up a group to try and brighten carers' lives and get them out of their homes.'

The group, which decided to meet at least once a month, has already planned activities include massage sessions and regular outings.
